A new exhibit at the »¨½·Ö±²¥-St. Claude Gallery will feature the work of MFA student Brennan Probst. The show, entitled “Amalgamations,†kicks off with an opening reception Saturday, March 9 from 6-9 p.m. and runs through Apr. 7.
Probst’s work explores time, memory and the artist’s ability to convey experience through autobiographical photographs and drawings. According to the artist, his compositions strive to provide an intimate look into his life while making wider observations about how his mind processes the world.
“I attempt to create images that convey how experiences feel, instead of how they look through the lens of an optical apparatus,†said Probst. “By utilizing multiple exposures, collage techniques and drawing, I investigate how I experience and remember my life and the people most important to me.â€
Probst is pursuing an MFA degree from the »¨½·Ö±²¥ . The has been rated consistently over the past three decades as one of the top programs of its kind in the Gulf South. The program’s collaborative curriculum explores painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, digital art and animation.
The »¨½·Ö±²¥ is the only local university to maintain an off-campus art gallery. Situated in the St. Claude Arts District at 2429 St. Claude Ave., the »¨½·Ö±²¥-St. Claude Gallery is an asset to the University in its mission to advance shared knowledge and support our region’s cultural economy. As a non-profit academic resource, the gallery culturally enriches the metropolitan area through the presentation of contemporary visual arts. It shows research, experimentation and individual expression in an academic environment, representing the visual arts at »¨½·Ö±²¥ to the city and to its peer institutions.
Regular gallery hours during the exhibition are 12-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
